First Lady Melania Trump wrote an op-ed for The Washington Post in celebration of Mother’s Day, and readers are heading straight to the comments.
In the opinion piece published Friday, May 8, the 56-year-old mother of one wrote about what it takes to be a “modern mother.”
“It is time to revisit the enduring American family traditions that have supported generations, while also recognizing the challenges for mothers of building both a career and a home,” she said in the piece for The Washington Post.
In it, the first lady also wrote that she constantly challenges herself “to think beyond the traditional responsibilities of the East Wing,” the space for the first lady and her staff that has since been demolished as President Donald Trump builds his 90,000-square-foot ballroom.

The comments directly on the Washington Post article were not in Melania’s favor, with the most-liked posts being particularly critical.
“You might not have noticed, but there is no ‘East Wing’ anymore,” one person wrote, to which another directly replied: “She’s been sitting in her boudoir playing with makeup all day since she and BLOTUS moved back in. She didn’t notice her office was torn down. Like her husband, she thinks if she says it, it’s not a lie.”
Another person said they came “straight to the comment section because I knew that would be better than whatever AI drivel Melaniabot was programmed to provide.”
“Well done, ChatGPT!” another commenter simply wrote.
“I’m just here for the comments,” another person said. “We all know President Trump doesn’t give a flying flip about mothers and their children.”
During a Mother’s Day event held at the White House on May 6, as Melania began to introduce her 79-year-old husband, she said, “Most know my husband as the strong commander-in-chief, but his empathy transcends the role and shapes a caring leader who constantly remembers each and every American soldier is someone’s child.”
When the president smirked at his wife’s kind words, people in attendance began to laugh, specifically when she said “his empathy transcends the role and shapes a caring leader.”
