Andy Cohen, 58, may be facing an uncertain future at CNN as the network heads toward a change in ownership.
Rob Shuter‘s Naughty But Nice Substack reported on Thursday, July 2, that industry insiders increasingly believe Cohen could be among the first major names shown the door amid CNN’s acquisition and its parent company, Warner Bros. Discovery, being in the process of being acquired by Paramount-Skydance, whose CEO, David Ellison, has appeared friendly with President Donald Trump. He is also considering putting Bari Weiss, the controversial new editor-in-chief of CBS News, in charge, according to The New York Times.
“People inside the business are already talking as though Andy’s time at CNN is winding down,” one well-placed media source told Shuter. “Major ownership shake-ups almost always come with major talent shake-ups. Andy is a liberal New Yorker who has never hidden his disdain for Donald Trump. Many insiders don’t see him fitting into the next chapter.”

Cohen’s annual New Year’s Eve special alongside Anderson Cooper, 59, has been a ratings juggernaut for CNN, delivering viral moments year after year. But according to the report, even a proven hit may not be enough to guarantee job security once new leadership steps in.
“Television history is filled with stars who looked untouchable until new management arrived,” a longtime media observer told Shuter. “Every new owner wants to put their own stamp on a network, and that often starts with the talent.”

The Bravo host and Real Housewives franchise executive producer has spent years holding his own against some of reality TV’s most outspoken personalities. That same fearlessness has carried over into his public commentary. In 2025, he criticized CBS over its cancellation of The Late Show with Stephen Colbert during an episode of Radio Andy’s “Andy Cohen Live,” saying, “It’s like CBS is just cooked. I mean, you got, it’s just, it is cooked. They are saying, ‘We are done.'”
“Andy’s authenticity is his brand,” another insider told Shuter. “He’s funny, fearless, and says exactly what’s on his mind. That’s made him enormously successful, but it’s not necessarily the profile the new ownership is expected to embrace.”
For now, CNN has stayed silent on the speculation, and Cohen himself has yet to publicly weigh in.
