During their ill-fated marriage, the 56-year-old actress teamed up with Artists Equity, the production company he founded with best friend Matt Damon in 2022, on her last two films, Unstoppable and Kiss of the Spider Woman.
Now that both movies have been released and her marriage to Affleck, 53, has come to an end, she’s decided to go her own way, a source tells Globe.
“After the underwhelming results she got with her Artists Equity projects […] it’s a bit of a relief for everybody that Jennifer’s going to use 2026 to finally break the chain between her projects, and Matt and Ben’s studio,” says the source.

As Globepreviously reported, the musical-thriller Kiss of the Spider Woman brought in a paltry $2 million on a $30 million budget.
Unstoppable got good reviews — The Hollywood Reporter called Lopez’s performance in the sports biopic “tender and entirely convincing” — but failed to receive any Golden Globe or Oscar nominations.
“Matt and Ben have huge respect for Jennifer as a movie star and an artist,” the source notes. “That hasn’t changed. But Jennifer finally understands that she’s better served generating her own projects, through her own production company, instead of contorting her decisions to line up with Matt and Ben’s vision.”

A lot of big players in the entertainment industry agree that this is the right move for Lopez, adds the source, including companies like Netflix that are still willing to make expensive films with the “Let’s Get Loud” singer at the helm.
Office Romance, her upcoming rom-com with Ted Lesso alum Brett Goldstein, will be released on the streaming giant later this year.
“They want the real J.Lo, not some filtered, edited version concocted by Matt and Ben,” says Globe’s source, “and she’s ready to give it to them!”
