“I’ve been around politics for almost 70 years, so I can tell who’s in it for the right reasons,” Caroline, 68, said in a campaign ad for her 33-year-old son. “That’s why I’m so proud of my son, Jack, and I know that both my parents and his uncle Teddy would be too.”
The ad featured clips of JFK with wife Jackie Kennedy, and their children, Caroline and the late John F. Kennedy Jr., as well as Ted Kennedy, before flashing to an image of Jack greeting New Yorkers.
“Because Jack is fighting for healthcare, civil rights, and public service with the same courage they did,” Caroline continued. “We need a new generation that still believes in the old values.”
The ad, which was released on Wednesday, June 17, comes just one week before the primary election.
Jack — whom Caroline shares with husband Edwin Schlossberg — comes from a long line of politicians. In addition to his grandfather, the 35th President of the United States, Jack’s uncle Robert F. Kennedy served as the U.S. Attorney General, while Ted was a senator from Massachusetts.
“He repeats things that are common sense knowledge that we all know,” Jack said during a June 10 appearance on NBC News. “What he’s wrong about is cutting Medicaid, cutting life saving vaccine research…He repeats wellness talking points that everybody already agrees on, and then acts like they’re these brand new ideas.”
