Whoopi Goldberg Opens Up About Why Her Name Is in the Epstein Files: ‘This Is So Messily Done’

The View cohost Whoopi Goldberg explained why her name appeared in a trove of documents related to the investigation into late convicted pedophile Jeffrey Epstein, which were recently released by the Department of Justice.

“My name is in the files,” Goldberg, 70, said during the Tuesday, February 17, episode of The View. “And what does it say? It says, ‘Whoopi needs a plane to get to Monaco,’” she read as an email screenshot appeared on screen.

According to the email, Julian Lennon’s charity was paying for her to fly private to Monaco and was searching for a private jet to borrow.

“They give all the information, and they’re [asking Epstein], ‘Do you want to offer your G2?’” the EGOT winner explained.

Cohost Sunny Hostin then jumped in to defend the Color Purple actress, saying, “It looks like they said, ‘No thanks.’”

“So in other words, anyone can be on that list,” Joy Behar added.

Goldberg made it clear she was not Epstein’s “girlfriend,” nor was she his “friend.”

“I’m getting dragged because people actually believe that I was with him,” she explained. “It’s like, ‘Honey, come on.’ …I didn’t get on the plane, because you know what I would have to do to get on the plane.”

“This is so messily done,” she continued, referring to the release of the Epstein files. “It’s meant to keep everybody off kilter.”
