Julia Roberts and Danny Moder are putting on a united front and seem to have put their struggles behind them, but friends are scratching their heads and wondering how happy they really are beneath the surface — all while whispering that they have one of showbiz’s most unique marriages.
“People point to Julia and Danny as a model Hollywood marriage, but the truth is that they really do things their own way,” a source exclusively tells Globe. Now that their twins Hazel and Phinnaeus, 20 are grown and it’s just their son Henry, 17, at home, “Julia’s been able to spread her wings again. She’s working more than she did back in the late 2000s and early 2010s, when being a mom was pretty much her whole world.”
The source describes cinematographer Moder, 56, as “a total pro” and says that “people in the business respect him,” but he’s less passionate about the industry than Roberts, 57.
“He’s not driven by work like Julia is and doesn’t follow her to every job the way he did when they were newlyweds and had young kids,” the source continues. “They spend a lot of time apart and that’s just not going to work for every couple.”

However, Roberts is “still a creature of Hollywood” and the Pretty Woman star enjoys living the life of an actress.
“She has assistants and stylists and likes working on location, but because she’s an A-lister, everything still happens on her terms and on her schedule,” the source explains. “Danny has a totally different approach to work and he relishes his downtime, his hobbies and his male friendships that are completely outside the industry.”
Adds the source, “They’re very different people but they have decided that this arrangement, where they both really do have their own lives, suits them quite well now that they’re not spending all their time with their kids.”
