New court filings in the Lindsay Clancy murder case paint a deeply disturbing picture of how prosecutors believe the Massachusetts mother killed her three young children.
According to court papers filed ahead of Lindsay’s July trial, cited by the New York Post on Thursday, June 11, prosecutors allege she demonstrated “extreme atrocity and cruelty” when she strangled Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and 8-month-old Callan with exercise bands at the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home on Jan. 24, 2023.
The prosecution’s cruelty argument hinges on a key piece of physical evidence: the speed with which her husband, Patrick Clancy, was able to remove the exercise bands from each child’s throat after discovering them in the basement, per the outlet. Because he could do so so quickly, prosecutors contend the theory that Lindsay may have tied the bands in a knot and walked away is implausible. According to the article, the evidence instead suggests, per the court papers, that “she manually pulled the bands around each child’s neck until they died.”

Patrick was still on the line with a 911 dispatcher when he found the children, each with a band around their neck. By the time first responders reached the basement, however, “each band [was] lying next to each child,” the filing alleges, per the report. Police descending the stairs reportedly heard Patrick cry out, “She killed the kids!”
Per the outlet, prosecutors are seeking to have that 911 call admitted as trial evidence, arguing it is critical to establishing intent.
Lindsay, 35, is a former nurse. Her defense does not dispute that she carried out the killings but plans to argue she was severely overmedicated and suffering from postpartum psychosis at the time, per the report. She intends to seek a not guilty verdict by reason of insanity.
Both Lindsay and Patrick have also filed civil lawsuits against the physicians who treated her prior to the tragedy, alleging misdiagnosis and inadequate care.
