Meghan McCain is calling out what she sees as a growing issue with cosmetic procedures among prominent Republican women.
In a fiery X post on Monday, October 19, McCain, 41, took aim at women in her party whose appearances have become the subject of online ridicule.
“I’m going to say something spicy that’s going to piss a lot of you off… Republicans really need to elevate and highlight more women in our party who have NOT had bizarre or botched plastic surgery that is both distracting and made a mockery all over the internet,” McCain wrote.
Women’s Wear Daily examined the reaction to Susan’s appearance and the renewed discussion surrounding a cosmetic trend known as “Mar-a-Lago face,” in a Tuesday, October 13, article.
The term is used to describe an exaggerated look associated with certain women in Trump’s social and political circles, particularly noticeably fuller cheeks and lips.
New York plastic surgeon Dr. Ira Savetsky described the appearance according to WWD as “an overfilled, unnatural appearance of the cheeks and lips.”
The publication noted that social media users had questioned whether Susan, 61, had undergone cosmetic procedures after footage of her appearance circulated online.
McCain’s criticism was broader than any single woman. She argued that Republicans should put more women in the spotlight whose appearances have not become a distraction online.
Her remarks quickly divided the comment section of her X post.
“The Mar-A-Lago Mavens aren’t doing it for you, huh?” one user joked.
Others questioned why she was focusing on women’s appearances rather than their accomplishments or political positions.
“Do you think Susan Dell’s generosity is distracting? People shouldn’t be so small minded that they overlook the positive for the looks,” one commenter wrote, directly bringing the billionaire philanthropist into the discussion.
Another responded, “This doesn’t anger me Meghan. It disgusts me that you are overlooking almost every elected woman in the party. This is an ignorant statement.”

The debate also highlighted a larger issue explored by WWD: the pressure women face over how they age.
The outlet pointed out that women in the public eye are often criticized both for showing signs of aging and for undergoing procedures intended to reduce them.
“There’s no wrong or right way to age,” Savetsky said, per the publication. “That’s a very personal decision for someone who wants to slow down the signs of aging.”
McCain has also taken aim at President Trump’s administration. As Globe previously reported, she blasted the White House in September over its launch of MAGA-themed arcade games inspired by classics such as Tetris and Snake.
“This is so gross and distasteful,” McCain wrote on X, criticizing the games, which included one in which players collected immigrants for deportation and another that challenged users to build a wall along the U.S.-Mexico border.
