Austin Metcalf’s Dad Calls Karmelo Anthony ‘Watermelon Felon’ in Explosive Rant

Austin Metcalf‘s father didn’t hold back after the gag order in the high profile murder case was lifted, and he unleashed a profanity-filled tirade aimed at Karmelo Anthony and his parents, Drew Anthony and Kala Hayes.

On Wednesday, June 10, Jeff Metcalf appeared on the JinxedSip Podcast and hurled personal attacks and racist remarks toward the family, including referring to Karmelo as the “Watermelon Felon.”

“Drew Anthony, you’re a [expletive] and a coward, and you raised one,” he said in his rant. “Kala, you drunk [expletive]. What’d you do to that boy to make him stab somebody? My God, what kind of mother are you?”

A gag order was previously placed on those involved in the case, but it was lifted after Karmelo was found guilty of murder and sentenced to 35 years in prison.

The Texas dad also criticized Kala and Drew for “choosing to monetize the death of a dead child” and speaking “very derogatory of him.”

“Drew Anthony, Kala, you’re cowards. You wouldn’t even show up for your son’s sentencing or victim statement impact. You abandoned your kid. You left him there,” Jeff added. “I guess he’s no more use to you ’cause you can’t get anymore GoFundMe money or [Give]SendGo money. You are grifters. You should be ashamed of yourselves. You raised that child and I swear to God, CPS should come check on those other three that you still have.”

He also accused Drew and Kala of not taking “accountability” and claimed that they “tried to play victim.”

“The real victim is the one who died. Not the one who shoved a knife in his chest,” he said.

Jeff didn’t stop with Drew and Kala, and went on to take aim at those who have argued that race played a role in Karmelo’s verdict.

“You people hang your hat on the dumbest [expletive] I’ve ever seen,” he continued. “Let me make something racist up so you all can go viral. I’ve got a new name for ‘Melo, ‘kay? Because he was such this little boy he was trying to portray. How about Watermelon Felon? How’s that one strike ya?”

Austin was just 17 years old when he was fatally stabbed by Karmelo during a track event at a Frisco, Texas, high school in April 2025. The two got into a heated exchange that ultimately led to Karmelo killing Austin.

As Globe previously reported, Karmelo was convicted of murder on Tuesday, June 9, and sentenced to 35 years in prison.
