Sharon Osbourne Tearfully Reflects on the Tragic Death of Ozzy Osbourne’s Guitarist Randy Rhoads

Sharon Osbourne recently recounted a painful death that she and late husband Ozzy Osbourne experienced.

The businesswoman, 72, appeared in the first episode of the Hulu docuseries, Into the Void: Life, Death & Heavy Metal, which was focused on Ozzy’s late guitarist, Randy Rhoads. 

Sharon managed Rhoades from 1980 until he tragically died in a 1982 plane crash.

“Randy came along at a time when Ozzy was so low, so depressed,” Sharon revealed in the doc. “His hope had gone.”

Sharon recalled Rhoades’ death, explaining how the air conditioning in the tour bus she was on with Ozzy, Rhoades, and the other bandmates broke, so they stopped at “the base” in Florida to get it fixed. The bus driver took Randy up on a plane owned by the bus company for fun, which ended up crashing and killing both of them.

“There was this terrible smell of fuel, and all we could see was fire,” Sharon remembered. “I just went out, and the tour manager was on the grass with his hands over his head.”

“I kept thinking ‘You’re asleep, you’re asleep! Wake up, wake up,’” she recounted telling herself.

“It was like a horror movie, body parts — and I was screaming at the tour manager, and I can remember taking my shoe off and whacking him across the head,” Sharon confessed.

Having to recount the details to Rhoades’ mom proved to be especially painful for Sharon to discuss.

“We were all in shock for so long, so long. And then you have to go back and try and make sense of the story to Randy’s mum,” Sharon stated in the doc, followed by tears. “Now you know why I didn’t want to talk about Randy.”
