Vice President JD Vance announced that his wife, Usha, gave birth to their fourth child on Sunday, July 19.
“We are excited to announce that our baby boy, Alec Neel Vance, was born this morning,” JD, 41, wrote on X. “Usha and the baby are happy and healthy, and our kids are overjoyed to meet their little brother.”
“The incredible military doctors and staff members of Walter Reed Medical Center and the White House Medical Unit have been a blessing,” he continued. “We are deeply thankful for all they have done for our family.”
As Globe previously reported, Usha, 40, credited JD’s friendship with Erica Kirk, widow of slain conservative activist Charlie Kirk, with their decision to have more children.
“I think it really heightened JD’s sense that he’d been talking about this for a while, this sense that there was this possibility of having another kid whom he could love as much as the three that we had,” Usha said on CBS Sunday Morningin June. “It really did crystallize for you, that sense that if you could have that other child, then you would have nothing to regret. And if we couldn’t have that other child, then we were very happy with the children that we had.”
Little Alec is the first child born to a sitting vice president in 150 years, when President Ulysses S. Grant‘s vice president, Schuyler Colfax and his second wife, Ellen Wade, welcomed son Schuyler Colfax III in 1870.
