“It is something I must live with every day,” addiction counselor Erik Fleming, 56, said in the written statement obtained by Globe. “I procured ketamine for Matthew Perry because I wanted the money and because I thought I was doing a favor for a friend. I never contemplated the worst possible outcome. This grievous failure will haunt me forever.”
As Globe previously reported, the troubled actor was found floating in his hot tub at his Los Angeles home in October 2023, with medical examiners determining Matthew passed away from the acute effects of ketamine at the age of 54.

The Whole Nine Yards star’s personal assistant Kenneth Iwamasa is facing 41 months in federal prison for injecting him with the deadly ketamine dose and ignoring the dangerous addiction “warning signs,” as reported by TMZ.
Iwamasa, 60, pleaded guilty to a single count of conspiracy to distribute ketamine resulting in death, and will be sentenced May 27.

Two prescription-writing physicians were implicated in Matthew’s death. Dr. Salvador Plasencia was slammed with two and a half years behind bars, while Dr. Mark Chavez was sentenced to eight months of home detention.
Despite Fleming’s plea for leniency, federal prosecutor Bill Essayli slammed the former filmmaker in a sentencing memo, per NBC News: “Despite knowing the risks and dangers of selling the drugs, defendant brokered multiple drug transactions that ultimately killed Mr. Perry.”

According to the National Enquirer, Fleming was previously employed as a program director at the exclusive Red Door treatment facility in Bel Air in 2021 when William Cooney, the 36-year-old boyfriend of Charlie Sheen‘s trainwreck ex Brooke Mueller was found unresponsive after somehow getting his hands on fentanyl.
Fleming admitted in his letter that he should have known better.
“As a certified drug counselor and addict, I knew it was illegal and wrong to distribute black market drugs,” he writes. “I felt overwhelmed with grief and shame when I found out Matthew Perry died. I knew what I had done and understood how much pain his death would cause to the people who loved him.”
