Former NHL player Brendan Lemieux has broken his silence on the death of his father, Claude Lemieux, the late Canadian ice hockey player who reportedly died by suicide.

Hours after Claude was found dead on Thursday, May 28, Brendan shared an Instagram photo of himself with his 1-year-old son Luc Robert and his dad on the ice.

“I love you dad! My son’s favorite person is going to watch from above for a while,” Brendan wrote in the caption. “We will see you ♥️.”

On Brendan’s Instagram Story, he reposted a photo of his dad and his son that was captioned, “His favorite person in the world.”

He also shared President Donald Trump‘s tribute to his father on Truth Social that read, “Claude Lemieux, a true Legend of the Game, and one of the fiercest competitors Hockey has ever seen, has passed away. Claude was a friend to the family, and a tremendous ‘TRUMP’ supporter.”

“He won 4 Stanley Cups with 3 different Teams — Montreal, New Jersey, and Colorado — His 80 Career Playoff Goals rank among the All Time Greats,” the Apprentice alum’s post continued. “Brendan, my thoughts are with you, Deborah, and the whole Lemieux family — You and your Dad were Warriors on the Ice. Claude will be missed by all who love Winning and Toughness. 🇺🇸 #MAGA President DONALD J. TRUMP.”

Claude, who played 21 seasons in the National Hockey League, was reportedly found by one of his adult sons. TMZ reported that the four-time Stanley Cup winner’s body was discovered around 3 a.m. on Thursday in the family’s furniture store after he failed to return home.

His body was reportedly located in a rear warehouse.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office told The New York TimesThe Athletic that authorities responded Thursday morning to a suicide attempt at a furniture showroom, which is owned by Lemieux and his wife, Deborah.

According to The Athletic, Lemieux had three sons (including Brendan) and one daughter. It is unclear which of his sons allegedly found their father’s body at the showroom.

The NHL Alumni Association announced Lemieux’s death on Thursday with a post shared to Instagram. According to the NHL Alumni Association, memorial service details will be announced at a later date.
