New details have been released regarding Marshawn Kneeland’s death just days after the Dallas Cowboys player committed suicide.

The Dallas Morning News reveals that Kneeland was discovered inside a portable restroom near the intersection of Network Boulevard and Gaylord Parkway in Frisco, Texas. The location was close to where his vehicle had crashed along the southbound side of Dallas Parkway and only a short distance from The Star, the Dallas Cowboys’ headquarters.

Kneeland was found dead from an apparent self-inflicted gunshot wound at the age of 24 on November 6. Hours before his death, the defensive end had been pulled over for a traffic violation.

Josue De La Cerda, a Texas Department of Public Safety spokesperson, told The Dallas Morning News that Kneeland wrecked his car into a pickup truck before abandoning it in a nearby field.

According to the publication, police in Plano were called to conduct a welfare check at Kneeland’s home on the evening of November 5 after concerns were raised about his well-being. Dispatch audio obtained by TMZ suggested officers were told he was armed and struggling with mental health issues.

The outlet also reported that Kneeland had been “texting his family goodbye,” while his girlfriend allegedly warned authorities that he planned to “end it all.”

Following the traffic crash, troopers said Kneeland fled on foot before his body was found around 1:30 a.m. the next morning. The Cowboys later confirmed his death in a statement, calling him “a beloved teammate and member of our organization” and extending condolences to his girlfriend, Catalina, and his family.

Kneeland, a second-round draft pick in 2024, had just marked his first NFL touchdown earlier that week during the Cowboys’ Monday night victory over the Arizona Cardinals.
