Tyler Hubbard finally revealed the real reason behind Florida Georgia Line’s 2022 split, after years of rumors pointing to a falling out with Brian Kelley.
According to Hubbard, 38, Kelley sent him a text of a song he had written, which Hubbard claimed sounded like a great song for country music legend Kenny Chesney.
“He said, ‘Well, I did actually send it to Chesney. And he passed on it, which I’m taking as a sign,’” Hubbard — who performed as a duo alongside Kelley — recalled his bandmate saying during a recent episode of the Human School Podcast. “I said, ‘A sign for what?’ And he said, ‘That I should do it [solo].’”

The “5 Foot 9” artist explained that he told Kelley, “I’m not willing to do Florida Georgia Line and then have a direct competitor that’s my partner doing the same exact thing.”
While he made it clear there is no bad blood with his former bandmate, Hubbard added, “I also told him, ‘I don’t think I deserve 50 percent of you if I’m willing to give a hundred.’”
Hubbard previously unfollowed Kelley on social media, which led to speculation that the two were feuding when they eventually announced their indefinite hiatus.

“I unfollowed BK for a few days while we were through this political, you know, in the middle of this election and everything going on,” he told Storme Warren on SiriusXM’s Exit 209 in November 2020. “And, and I even called him and told him, I said, ‘Hey buddy, I love you. And I love you a lot more in real life than on your stories right now. So I’m just going to, so that’s why I’m unfollowing you. Nothing personal. I still love you. You’re still my brother.’ I just didn’t want to see it every time I opened Instagram. And so it wasn’t a big deal.”
Now, Hubbard admits, “When it happens publicly, and you get millions of people weighing in, it compounds the stress.”
