Courteney Cox Peeved By Ex David Arquette Hyping Up His Big Return to ‘Scream 7’ Too Soon

David Arquette is out blowing his horn and making the most of the upcoming Scream 7 sequel, hoping to boost his career, but insiders say his costar and baby mama Courteney Cox wants him to cool his jets fearing he’ll jinx the flick — and her pal Jennifer Aniston’s been drawn into the drama too.

An insider says David, 54, Courteney’s ex and dad of their 21-year-old daughter, Coco, “is definitely feeling himself” over reprising his role as bumbling Deputy Dewey Riley, “but he seems almost oblivious to how instrumental Courteney was in getting him back into the series, since his character had previously been killed off.”

Sources credit Courteney with pulling the horror series back from the brink of cancellation and reuniting the original 1996 cast — including herself, David, Neve Campbell, Matthew Lillard and Skeet Ulrich — for the sequel debuting Feb. 27.

Still, David was out making appearances and promoting the movie with a Halloween screening of the original and discussion in Tacoma, Wash., for $75 a ticket.

Notes the insider: “Sure, in part he’s justified, since the buzz around the upcoming movie is pretty strong.”

But Courteney, 61, now in a love-in with 49-year-old Irish singer Johnny McDaid, “has chosen to be low-key, and David has chosen to be the opposite,” says the insider. “He’s already doing the media rounds to hype up his return to making studio movies.”

“It’s all a bit annoying to Courteney and of course to Jen. They love David, but the bragging, the strutting and the wild pro-wrestling-style antics are not their taste.”

“The problem is — he badly wants to get back to being a full-time movie star and the slightest bit of attention he gets completely goes to his head.”

Another rub is that “it’s also just bad luck to be out there celebrating a movie so far in advance of its release, and Courteney is famously one of the most superstitious actors in Hollywood,” adds the insider.

“I just don’t think David appreciates how big a lift this was for her, because he’s so caught up in his own comeback narrative.”

“She and Jen are just hoping David can keep his act together and not jinx the whole movie.”
