God only knows how Beach Boy Brian Wilson escaped an early death after a chilling encounter with rock star wannabe turned bloodthirsty cult leader Charles Manson!

The music legend, who wrote many of the group’s biggest hits — including “California Girls” and “Wouldn’t It Be Nice” — died June 11 at age 82 after a life plagued by mental illness and addiction.

But back in 1968, he was introduced to the notorious guru after his drug-taking bandmate brother Dennis Wilson succumbed to the lure of the criminal’s brainwashed harem and began associating with his followers known as the Manson Family.

Experts believe Manson’s frustration over his unsuccessful music career led him to order the 1969 slaughter of nine people — including actress Sharon Tate, the pregnant wife of acclaimed director Roman Polanski.

According to Robert Fernandez and Steven Hathaway — producers of the Netflix documentary Chaos: The Manson Murders — the charismatic creep “wasn’t that bad a musician,” but “it was impossible to ignore one key moment: the rejection of a record deal. In digging into Manson’s musical past, it’s wild to see just how close he came to actual stardom.”

Sources say Manson and some of his girls moved into Dennis’ Los Angeles pad for LSD-fueled orgies — and the wild-eyed maniac convinced the drummer to give him a shot inside Brian’s home recording studio.

“He just gave us all the creeps,” recalls band bookkeeper Catherine Pace.

Sources say Manson — who died in prison at age 83 in 2017 while serving multiple life terms for the 1969 massacre committed by his minions — soured on the session after learning that Brian and producers had altered his tunes to reflect the Beach Boys’ surf sound.

The collaboration abruptly ended when Manson allegedly pulled a knife on a producer — and the band urged Dennis to cut ties with the psycho.

Dennis and Brian’s bandmate cousin Mike Love, 84, suggests in his 2016 memoir Good Vibrations that Manson’s musical flop ignited his killer instincts and writes, “Consumed by rage… he convinced his followers that the apocalypse was coming in a bloody race war, at the end of which, he and his disciples would take over.”
