A Voodoo King brought some magic to Madison Square Garden recently.
On Tuesday, May 19, Voodoo King Michael Washington (aka Tata Tilk) performed a Palo Mayombe spell in hopes of protecting the New York Knicks from Mayor Zohran Mamdani‘s “Curse of the Mambino,” before they played the Cleveland Cavaliers, according to the New York Post.
The “Curse of the Mambino” stems from when Mamdani, 34, attended a Mets game at Citi Field in April and hugged the mascots, Mr. and Mrs. Met, and the team proceeded to lose multiple games.
The need for a spiritual cleanse on Tuesday arose after the politician said he might attend the Knicks game in a press conference that day, per the New York Post.
“I command thee for no more spells from Mayor Mamdani on any team or anyone that interfere with their success,” Washington, 46, declared outside the arena. “I’m here to protect the Knicks from his malevolent magic.”
“He’s basically showing the magic abilities that he has through cursing an entire team, in other words, multiple people, like multiple counterparts, like all at once,” Washington told the New York Post.

“It was a spell to basically not have Mamdani curse the Knicks, because we were nervous about him coming tonight, and he might possibly curse the Knicks, so I did the match for it,” Washington continued. “He wouldn’t be able to curse the Knicks, so no Mambino curses here.”
Whether fans want to chalk it up to magic or skill, the Knicks defeated the Cavaliers on Tuesday.
