Riley Keough and Billie Lourd Have Bonded Over Losing Their Famous Moms: ‘Nothing Lasts Forever’ (Exclusive)

Riley Keough and Billie Lourd have developed a close friendship over the years.

According to a source, having both lost their A-list mothers — Lisa Marie Presley and Carrie Fisher, respectively — the actresses are devoted to supporting each other through life’s highs and lows.

“They bonded over the death of their moms, but they have a lot more in common than that, including the fact that in their personal lives, they’re both surprisingly traditional and normal people,” the source tells Globe.

“Billie in particular has really taken to becoming a mom,” the source says of Lourd, 33, who shares son Kingston, 4, and daughter Jackson, 2, with her husband, Austen Rydell. “She’s leaned on her friendship with Riley during that journey.” Keough, 36, and husband Ben Smith-Petersen are parents to daughter Tupelo, 3, and a second child born earlier this year.

Despite both coming from famous families, the source adds that Keough and Lourd “wear their power extremely lightly,” crediting it as one of the reasons they got along so well.

“Neither of them use their status to push other people around,” says the source. “For all the good fortune their status brings them, neither of them take anything for granted.”

Plus, adds the source, “they both know that nothing lasts forever because they both lost their moms so suddenly, in the same close time period.”

Fisher — who famously starred as Princess Leia in the Star Wars franchise —  died in December 2016 at age 60, just days after going into cardiac arrest aboard a flight from London to L.A. Sleep apnea and other undetermined factors were later cited as contributing to her death, per a coroner’s report obtained by the Associated Press. A toxicology report also confirmed the presence of drugs in her system at the time, per People.

Keough’s mom, Presley, went into cardiac arrest in January 2023 caused by a small bowel obstruction. She died at Los Angeles hospital at age 54.
