Super-Agent Ari Emanuel Reveals the Moment He Told Then-President Barack Obama He Was ‘110 Percent Wrong’

When it comes to Hollywood, few know the business as well as super-agent Ari Emanuel — but some people just don’t listen.

During an appearance on Good Morning America on Monday, September 21 to promote his new memoir Roll the Calls, Emanuel, 65, reflected on trying to land then-President Barack Obama, for whom his brother, Rahm Emanuel, served as chief of staff, as a client.

“So we’re in the White House,” Emanuel recalled, noting that he wanted to represent Obama, 65, for “his books, his lectures. And I’m explaining to him where Netflix is going, and all the streamers are going. And he says to me, ‘My people think this streaming thing is not [going to be successful].”

“And as a classic Emanuel, I interrupt him,” he admitted, cringing, “and I think everybody’s mouth dropped. And I say, ‘Mr. President, you’re not 5 percent wrong, you’re not 10 percent wrong, you’re 110 percent wrong.'”

In his memoir, Roll the Calls, Emanuel, known for his salty language, is even more candid about what he said to the former commander in chief. “I tell him I will make him a [expletive] billionaire,” he wrote in an excerpt, per The Puck.

“He does one of the funniest lines of all time: ‘This is definitely an Emanuel,'” he recalled, seemingly referring to working with Rahm, 66.

In 2018, Barack, 65, and his wife, Michelle Obama, signed a deal with Netflix worth an estimated $65 million, per Variety.

Elsewhere in his book, per The Puck, Emanuel discusses firing the next occupant of the White House: President Donald Trump. “I tell him that I’ve never dropped a client with such ease,” he wrote. “And I tell him that I didn’t vote for him.”

Roll the Calls will be released on September 22.
