Fans are less than impressed with Howard Stern‘s new HBO Max show.
Dubbed The Howard Stern Show, the new series takes the 72-year-old shock jock’s weekly Sirius XM live show, editing it down from three hours to a 90-minute episode for HBO Max viewers to air on the streamer every Thursday.
But the reception has been far from what Stern was likely expecting, with fans on Reddit deeming it hard to watch and others wondering how long the show will last.
The comments come after a report from The U.S. Sun earlier this month, in which multiple sources claimed that staff on Stern’s Sirius XM radio show were scrambling to pull the HBO show together, calling it “chaos” and a “total disaster.”

According to The U.S. Sun, staff who survived Stern’s two rounds of layoffs were reportedly tasked with figuring out how to make the new format work, given just days to figure things out following Stern’s August 31 announcement. They were allegedly left scrambling as they worked to determine what would be needed for HBO Max to fully utilize content from Stern’s Sirius XM show and repackage it into a TV episode airing days later.
Stern broke his silence on the mounting backlash surrounding his show’s major shake-up during the radio series’ September 14 season premiere, sarcastically addressing the negative press and reports about his workplace.
“I’ve never had a summer where I was treated so well in the press,” Stern quipped, per an earlier report from The U.S. Sun. “It was so positive. I can’t believe it. I can’t tell you how many different people have called me a scumbag.”
However, despite the massive staff cuts, he did not directly address the layoffs during the broadcast.
