Howard Stern Getting Back at His ‘Critics’ With New HBO Deal After SiriusXM Drops Channel 101

Howard Stern may be scaling back his eponymous SiriusXM show, but he’s also entered a new endeavor with the program.

As readers know, the 72-year-old radio host’s show will air one new live broadcast every Monday instead of two a week when it returns on air on September 14. Then HBO Max will release a filmed version of the radio show on Thursdays starting September 17.

In a Daily Mail article published on Monday, August 31, a source revealed that “Howard is in a really good mood with his new HBO deal. He feels that it is a big middle finger to all his critics who either want him done or think that he is done.”

“When he worked with HBO Max a few years ago on his Bruce Springsteen special, he loved how it came out and thought he would get an Emmy for it,” the source explained, referring to the interview which was aired in 2022. “That is why he wants to do his show like this, because it will allow him to get A-list guests on board, and potentially get an Emmy nomination and win.”

“As the ‘King of All Media,’ I am honored to bring my SiriusXM show to HBO Max, and through HBO Max to worldwide distribution,” Stern remarked in a statement obtained by Globe. “For years, my SiriusXM show has offered only brief video peeks. HBO convinced me to pull back the curtain and let the world watch; the amazing celebrities and musicians who drop by, our staff antics, and my conversations with Robin [Quivers].”

This won’t be the first time the comedian has worked on TV. Back in the ’90s, he had a show on E! called The Howard Stern Interview, where he would interview a celebrity guest.

“He knows what TV is like for his show with what he did with E! But he is looking to make this just a little different, a little more polished,” the source shared. “He’s ready to be the King of All Media again.”

“If enough people watch the show, it will build into something different down the line,” a source told the outlet. “Howard loves David Letterman and he would love to do something like Dave is doing and adapt his show into more of an interview show, and really take his empire into a completely different phase than the normal morning radio gig.”

On Tuesday, Stern and Andy Cohen shared a joint Instagram video announcing that Radio Andy will be taking over Stern’s archive SiriusXM channel, Howard 101, which streamed old episodes of the show. The broadcaster told the Bravo host he has “one request,” which is to “please continue the tradition of doing a lot of gay antics.“
