Kim Kardashian Says Caitlyn Jenner’s 2015 Gender Transition Was ‘TV Gold’

Kim Kardashian knows what makes good television.

On the Thursday, November 13, episode of the Hulu reality series The Kardashians, the Skims founder, 45, looked back on stepdad Caitlyn Jenner’s 2015 gender transition, which the former Olympian also documented on I Am Cait.

While discussing the similarities and differences of filming reality TV versus a scripted show, like the Hulu legal drama All’s Fair that Kardashian also stars in, she explained that there are different kinds of pressures.

With something like All’s Fair, audiences are simply judging the cast by their acting abilities. When it comes to reality TV, it all has to do with what’s going on in the subject’s personal life — and if there’s no personal drama, it can be a boring watch.

According to the mom of four, if you’re “excited that your life is finally together and calm … the viewer is pissed cause it’s finally together and calm.”

“It’s like, what happened to the days when your stepdad turns into a woman? That was TV gold,” she quipped, referring to Jenner’s transition.

Jenner, now 76, came out as transgender in April 2015, and she appeared as Caitlyn on the cover of Vanity Fair that year. Her gender-affirming surgery was completed in January 2017.

Kardashian made a similar comment about her stepdad during an October appearance on The Graham Norton Show.

When speaking to host Graham Norton, she recalled shooting the pilot episode of Keeping Up With the Kardashians, adding. “We had no idea what it would really turn into, and then a show fell through that they were doing on the E! network, and they were like, ‘Can you start filming next week and film a whole series?’ So we kind of just got thrown into it, and it lasted 20 years.”

“Every time we were filming, sometimes at the end of the season, we were like, ‘Okay, so we’re going to be so boring. We filmed every crazy thing that has possibly happened to us. What can we possibly film next?’” she continued. “Then my stepdad will turn into a woman! And it will be like, ‘Oh we have two more seasons!’”
