Kamala Harris has a different view than Michelle Obama on whether America is ready to elect a female to the highest office.
In an interview with The New York Times published Tuesday, December 9, the former United States Vice President, 61, declared, “I do believe the country is ready,” for a woman in the Oval Office.
The 2024 Democratic presidential nominee’s comments come less than a month after Michelle, 61, told Tracee Ellis Ross in a sit-down interview that she wouldn’t run for president because she doesn’t think the country would elect a woman.

“As we saw in this past election, sadly, we ain’t ready,” the former first lady — who is married to Barack Obama — stated, referring to how PresidentDonald Trump beat out Harris in the 2024 election. “That’s why I’m like, don’t even look at me about running because you all are lying. You’re not ready for a woman. You are not. So don’t waste my time.”
“You know, we got a lot of growing up to do, and there’s still, sadly, a lot of men who do not feel like they can be led by a woman, and we saw it,” Michelle added.
As Globe previously reported, politicians and political commentators alike have weighed in on the Becoming author’s remarks.

On an episode of The View last month, Alyssa Farah Griffin remarked, “I respectfully disagree with the First Lady. I don’t think that we’re not ready,” insisting both Harris and Hillary Clinton “were flawed candidates.”
Meanwhile, U.S. Representative for South Carolina’s 6th congressional district, James Clyburn, said he agreed with Michelle’s take during a Sunday, December 7, appearance on NBC’s Meet the Press.
“Michelle Obama is absolutely correct,” Clyburn stated. “If you look at the history, we demonstrated that we were not ready.”
