Boy George Admits That He Uses Chat GPT to Write Music: ‘AI Is Brilliant’

Pop icon Boy George is boldly marching into the future of music after admitting he uses artificial intelligence to help write new music.

The Culture Club frontman, now 64, admits he’s been leaning on AI to churn out songs at a frantic pace — claiming he’s already created a slew of albums with help from the technology.

Speaking on the March 2 episode of Fearne Cotton’s Happy Place podcast, he said: “I’ve written like five albums already with AI.”

“AI is brilliant. Nothing to fear,” he added, per People: “I have fantastic conversations with ChatGPT and I’ll say, ‘Oh that [lyric is] crap, that’s not what I would say,’” he continued. “You can train it.”

And while some people have concerns about the tech, George shrugged off those concerns with his usual blunt attitude.

“I say to everyone, if you get replaced by a robot, you weren’t trying hard enough,” he told British interviewer Fearne Cotton. “Obviously I care about people losing their jobs… But there’s so many great things.”

He added: “My manager last night was saying, ‘You know you’re talking to someone in China.’ I was like, I couldn’t care less. I said, it doesn’t matter… An artist like me, they try to force you to work in an old-fashioned way. I’m ahead of them.”

The singer revealed he even used artificial intelligence to help craft lyrics for a politically charged track titled “I Am Iran” — which required lines translated into Persian.

Since he doesn’t speak the language, George said he wrote the lyrics in his own British style and let AI transform them.

“I don’t sing in Persian and I’m not Persian,” he explained. “But it translates so interestingly into Persian.”

Stage and screen icon Liza Minnelli recently defended her own use of artificial intelligence on the electronic track Kids Wait Till You Hear This, as previously reported by Globe.

The 80-year-old wrote on Facebook: “We used AI arrangements. Not AI vocals. A few trolls didn’t bother to read the truth, check with me or my partners.The shout outs are all mine!”
