Man Representing Himself at Murder Trial Objects, Complains ‘Jail’ Doesn’t ‘Have PowerPoint’

A man representing himself in a murder trial had a very strange objection during court on Thursday, September 17, when the prosecution began showing evidence with a PowerPoint presentation.

Dr. Tomasz Kosowski is on trial for the murder of Steven Cozzi in March of 2023. According to CourtTV, Kosowski, 47, waived his rights to both an attorney and a jury, meaning Judge Joseph Bulone will decide his fate alone. The outlet reports that Kosowski spent the first three days of his trial mostly silent.

However, on Thursday, he reportedly became much more engaged while questioning the forensic scientist who was giving testimony. Later in the day, prosecutors introduced an exhibit, a PowerPoint presentation showing different bloodstain patterns. This prompted Kosowski’s first objection, as he explained that he had not seen the proposed display.

“Again, I’m sorry. I haven’t seen any PowerPoints at all,” he reportedly said. “We just don’t have PowerPoint at the jail.”

However, Judge Bulone overruled the objection after the prosecutors handed Kosowski a printed version of the PowerPoint, thus allowing him to review the exhibit and any future PowerPoint exhibits despite not having access to the program behind bars.

According to Fox13, Kosowski is accused of killing Cozzi in the bathroom of his law firm in 2023. Cozzi was reportedly defending the other side of a lawsuit Kosowski had with his previous employer. The outlet reports Kosowski was often aggressive toward the defense attorney and even tried to get him thrown off the case.

On March 21, 2023, Cozzi went to the bathroom without his phone or wallet and was never seen again. Forensic evidence showed signs of blood in the bathroom as well as in Kosowski’s truck, which was seen at the law firm in surveillance video and was later tracked and found in Kosowski’s garage. Cozzi’s body has not been found.
