Women Claim Restaurant Owner Threw Them Out and Destroyed $900 Phone Over Fake ID Claim

A night out at a Michigan restaurant turned into a viral dispute after two 22-year-old women accused the owner of Carolina Lowcountry Kitchen of falsely claiming they used a fake ID during a heated confrontation.

The women shared their account in a TikTok video posted July 25 by @analovesfoods that has since gone viral, garnering over 169,700 views.

In the video, one woman said she’d eaten at the restaurant several times before and had always enjoyed it, adding that the place was empty when they arrived that night.

According to their account, only one of them ordered an alcoholic drink and showed a valid ID. The other stuck to a cucumber lemonade, explaining she was steering clear of alcohol while recovering from an illness, but she took a sip of her friend’s drink out of curiosity.

They allege the owner then approached their table, told them sharing drinks wasn’t allowed, and accused one of them of using a fake ID, despite both women maintaining the ID shown was valid.

The confrontation escalated when the owner returned with the bill and asked them to leave. “No one cares. Actually, I do. So it’s time for you to go,” the owner allegedly said, according to the video, adding, “The [expletive] no, you won’t.”

One woman claims the owner poured a drink into her purse, ruining a phone inside worth $900. “My phone’s blacked out, cash drenched, nine hundred dollar phone gone,” she said.

She also described an encounter with a man identified as “Mike,” who she says charged at her demanding she hand over a drink, causing it to fall and break.

The women say the situation turned physical, with one recalling the owner grabbing her wrist during the exchange.

The women have also clarified that they intended to file a police report but felt it wasn’t taken seriously, so they turned to TikTok to reveal what happened.

According to Google reviews, several diners have criticized the restaurant’s service. One reviewer wrote, “The wait staff was also very rude. I was hoping this was a place I could recommend to friends and family from locally as well as from out of state. But unfortunately, I will now only recommend they avoid this location. I am very disappointed I wasted so much money on this restaurant.”

Another reviewer described being ignored entirely, writing, “Went there yesterday afternoon, the young lady looked at us and said she’d seat us in a minute. We were the only ones waiting and the place was not busy. After five minutes of people ignoring us and not saying a word, we left.”

A third reviewer said the staff was unwelcoming, adding, “I have been here before and it was ok, but after this visit, I definitely won’t be returning.”

Though the restaurant owner has not publicly responded to the allegations shared by the two women in the TikTok video, a spokesperson shared a statement on behalf of Carolina Low Country Kitchen with Globe to share context.

“Prior to where the video begins, the patrons violated alcohol age-verification laws, which is why they were asked to leave. We regret the situation escalated, but we take these laws very seriously as violating them could put our license and the safety of others at risk,” the statement explained, in part. “Since the incident, our team and their families – including minor children – have received a troubling number of threats. While we understand people may have strong reactions given what they saw, these threats have been extremely alarming.” 

“From the beginning, we have worked to welcome all guests to enjoy our low country cooking in a friendly atmosphere,” the statement added. “We remain committed to this and thank our wonderful community for its continued support.”
