WHCD Suspect’s Brother ‘Going Through a Lot’ After Reporting Alleged Manifesto

The brother of Cole Tomas Allen — the man accused of opening fire at the 2026 White House Correspondents’ Dinner — is going through a lot after the ordeal, according to his friends and family.

In a Thursday, April 30, report from the Daily Mail, the publication spoke with people connected to Gabriel Allen, who reportedly notified police of an alleged manifesto written by his brother.

Gabriel’s parents-in-law, Joel and Jennifer Devereux, told the publication that their son-in-law and his wife, Ashley, welcomed a baby girl (their first child) two weeks ago.

Jennifer said it “wasn’t easy” when Gabriel received the alleged manifesto, though Joel clarified that “there hasn’t been time” to discuss the situation with their daughter and son-in-law.

Joel said it must have been “very surprising” for Gabriel to receive the alleged manifesto from his brother, adding, “You don’t plan for something like that.”

Reflecting on how Gabriel notified New London Police of his Cole’s alleged “writings” that displayed anti-Trump sentiment (per NBC Connecticut), Joel said, “I think anybody would do that. Like ‘Hey, there’s more stuff going on, I don’t know what to do with this, let me go to police.’”

Friends of the suspect’s brother also said they can’t imagine what the 25-year-old is dealing with at the moment.

“I can imagine Gabe is going through a lot right now,” one friend, who did not want to be identified, told the Daily Mail.

“He has always had a strong sense of right and wrong and never hesitates to do the right thing even when it is difficult,” the friend added.

The Department of Justice said in a press release on Monday, April 27, that Cole,  31, was arraigned that day in U.S. District Court on charges stemming from the April 25 shooting at the White House Correspondents’ Association Dinner.

As Globe previously reported, Allen is charged “with one count of attempt to assassinate the President of the United States, transportation of a firearm & ammunition in interstate commerce with intent to commit a felony, and discharge of a firearm during a crime of violence.”

President Donald Trump and Vice President JD Vance, among many others, were quickly whisked away by security and not injured during the incident.
