A Florida woman found herself behind bars after officials say she hid the receipt of a winning lottery ticket from an elderly customer.
Tameka Hall was charged with felony grand theft, according to the Volusia Sheriff’s Office, per a report from News 6 Orlando published on Friday, June 19.
According to deputies, the customer went to a Walmart convenience store on June 14 to collect $2,700 from a winning Florida Lottery ticket. Hall, 40, who was working as a cashier at the time, explained what the man needed to do to claim his winnings and sent him on his way.
Later that same day, the man discovered he didn’t have the receipt required to officially claim the prize and returned to the store to alert management.

While reviewing the surveillance footage, the store manager allegedly showed Hall taking the winning receipt, folding it and placing it in the pocket of her work vest before clocking out.
When deputies met with Hall the following day, she claimed she became distracted while speaking with another customer and put the receipt in her pocket. She said she intended to give it to a manager, but forgot to do so.
Officials accompanied Hall to her car where she handed over the winning ticket and she was placed under arrest. She was taken to Volusia County Branch Jail and her bond was set at $2,500.
A spokesperson for Walmart confirmed to News 6 Orlando that Hall is no longer employed by the company.
