Timothée Chalamet’s jaw-dropping Oscar loss has plunged his relationship with girlfriend Kylie Jenner into a “major make-or-break moment,” a source exclusively tells Globe.
“Everyone in the industry is saying he would have won [Best Actor] if he’d have played things differently in the lead up to the awards,” the source says of the Marty Supreme star, 30, who lost to Michael B. Jordan for his performance in Sinners.
“There’s this sense that his publicity push and all his outlandish comments are what did him in,” the source explains.
Chalamet’s ties to the Kylie Cosmetics founder, 28, might not have helped his chances, either.
“A lot of people in his camp are blaming the influence of the Kardashians because he was clearly taking a page out of their no-press-is-bad-press playbook,” reveals the source. “They’re saying this is more proof being associated with their world isn’t doing him any favors professionally.”

Hearing people criticize Jenner and her family hasn’t been easy for Chalamet, says the source.
“It’s obviously a very touchy subject because he and Kylie are happy. [Their] chemistry is off the charts, and she’s been nothing but sweet and accommodating,” Globe’s source notes. “But at the same time, his career is still his first love, and he’s incredibly ambitious.”
Dune: Part Three is scheduled to hit theaters in December, and the sequel to his record-breaking Wonka movie is in pre-production, per IMDB.
“He’s already throwing himself into his next role, and he’s got people in his ear … warning him to stay focused on his work,” reveals the source. “With another long shoot coming up and all the pressure that comes with that, plus the constant push from people around him to distance himself from Kylie, it’s hard to see how this isn’t going to cause serious strain between them.”
