Teen Obsessed With ‘Friday the 13th’ Allegedly Stabbed Mom to Death, Sent Photo of Corpse to Friends

A 13-year-old boy who was allegedly fascinated with the hockey-masked killer from the Friday the 13th horror franchise stabbed his mom 46 times, then sent a picture of her blood-soaked corpse to a friend, according to People.

Derek Rosa, who’s now 15, attacked his 39-year-old mother, Elina Garcia, as she slept in their apartment in Hialeah, Fla., on Oct. 12, 2023. His newborn sister was sleeping nearby but was unharmed.

After he butchered his mother, the teen reportedly sent a friend photos of her bloody corpse, as well as a gun and a selfie of his own blood-soaked hand.

The friend initially thought the pictures were a joke, but “alternated between shock and disbelief” when he discovered the photos depicted an actual killing, prosecutors say.

Rosa then called 911 and allegedly confessed to the murder to an operator.

He pleaded guilty to second-degree murder on Jan. 16 and was sentenced to 25 years in prison, plus 20 years of probation, the Miami Herald reported.

“The pain Elina Garcia suffered from the 46 stab wounds could only have been surpassed by the knowledge that the person killing her was her own son,” Miami-Dade State Attorney Katherine Fernandez Rundle said in a statement.

At the sentencing, Rosa’s stepfather, Frank Ramos, told the teen he was “like a son.”

“We were a very close-knit family,” he said. “Your mom was a loving mother … Her death destroyed our family and changed our lives forever.”

Rosa’s defense attorney Dayliset Rielo told the court the teen had been diagnosed with ADHD and autism and was emotionally and cognitively immature.

Rosa will be incarcerated in a youthful offender camp until he’s 21 and then will be transferred to the Department of Corrections to complete his sentence.
