Spencer Pratt is seemingly making his feelings known about the Lindsay Clancy case following the mistrial in the Massachusetts mother’s murder trial.
Pratt, 43, appeared to reference the case in a post on X on Thursday, September 10, days after a jury was unable to reach a unanimous verdict on whether Clancy, 36, should be held criminally responsible for killing her three children.
“Shout out to my mom for not strangling me to death with an exercise band when I was an infant,” the Hills alum, who unsuccessfully ran for mayor of Los Angeles earlier this year, wrote. “You’re the best, ma!”

Clancy was charged with murdering her children, Cora, 5, Dawson, 3, and Callan, 8 months, at the family’s Duxbury, Massachusetts, home in January 2023. Her defense did not dispute that she killed the children but argued that she was suffering from postpartum psychosis and should be found not guilty by reason of insanity. Prosecutors maintained that Clancy understood the wrongfulness of her actions.
Pratt’s pointed post quickly drew reactions in the comment section from both sides of the debate surrounding the case. “I just told my kids to thank their Mom for not strangling them with an exercise band when they were little,” one person responded.
Another wrote, “My mom was under terrible stress with her 10 kids and didn’t hurt us🤨.”
Others criticized Pratt’s take.
One commenter simply wrote, “too soon…🥲[,]” while another asked, “Was your mom put on 30+ different psych meds/dosages?”
A third critic took aim directly at the reality star, writing, “You are deranged.”

As Globe previously reported, Clancy’s attorney, Kevin Reddington, filed a new motion on Thursday asking Judge William Sullivan to find her not guilty by reason of insanity following the mistrial. Reddington argued in the filing that “no rational jury could find beyond a reasonable doubt that she had no mental disease or defect when the Commonwealth’s own proof established that she did.”
The jury deliberated for seven days before Sullivan declared a mistrial on Friday, September 4. Eleven of the 12 jurors favored finding Clancy not guilty by reason of insanity, according to jurors who have spoken publicly since the trial. The jury foreperson said the lone holdout acknowledged having reasonable doubt but still would not vote for acquittal.
Reddington confirmed that he intends to seek dismissal of the case on double jeopardy grounds during an appearance on CBS Mornings. Prosecutors have not announced whether they will retry Clancy, who remains at Tewksbury Hospital, a psychiatric facility.
The case is scheduled to return to court for a status hearing on September 29.
