The son of Isak Andic, founder of the fashion group Mango, was taken into custody in Spain in connection with his father’s death on a hiking trip in 2024.
Jonathan Andic is set to appear before a Spanish court on Tuesday, May 19, after being taken in handcuffs to a police station for questioning in connection with the reopened investigation into his dad’s death.
According to Reuters, Isak, 71, died after falling more than 328 feet from a cliff while hiking with family members, including Jonathan, 45, near Barcelona in December. His death was initially ruled as an accident, but the case was reopened by police in Catalonia as a possible homicide after elements of Jonathan’s story allegedly didn’t match the forensics. Police have not elaborated on the forensics, nor have they explained the details behind Jonathan’s arrest.

A spokesperson for the family told the outlet they are confident in Jonathan’s innocence and will continue to cooperate with investigators. Jonathan has previously denied any responsibility for his father’s death.
After Isak died, Jonathan and his two sisters took over the company and jointly own 95 percent of Mango, with 5 percent owned by its CEO, Toni Ruiz. Jonathan was named vice chairman of the board as well following his dad’s death, according to Reuters.

Isak founded Mango in 1984 and saw it grow rapidly during his time with the company. He was estimated to be worth roughly $4.5 billion at the time of his death. Jonathan joined in 2005 and took over the company’s Mango Man line.
The New York Post reports that he was the sole witness to his dad’s death, alleging that he was walking ahead of Isak when he heard rocks tumbling and turned just in time to see his dad falling off the cliff. It’s unclear what about this story led police to reopen the investigation after ruling the incident an accident.
