White House Press Secretary Karoline Leavitt admits that leaving her newborn daughter at home isn’t easy — no matter who’s waiting on the tarmac.
Leavitt posted an Instagram story on Wednesday, July 1, to announce she was joining President Donald Trump aboard the inaugural flight of the new Air Force One — a plane gifted to the United States by Qatar — as the administration headed to North Dakota for the opening of the Theodore Roosevelt Presidential Library.
In the Instagram story she shared a photo of baby Viviana dressed in a cheerful “little sister” onesie. “This will be the longest I have been away from her by far,” she wrote alongside a crying emoji. She also shared a video of the new aircraft set to Toby Keith‘s “American Ride” before turning the camera on her breakfast and table companions, introducing Steven Chung, Beau Harrison and Stephen Miller to her followers.

At one point, she asked Miller for his take on the new plane and he didn’t hesitate. “It’s majestic. It’s perfect for American 250,” he said — a response that drew an audible laugh from the press secretary herself.

Leavitt, 28, made her return to the White House just eight weeks after welcoming Viviana in May. She first stepped back into the public eye on Tuesday, June 23, joining President Trump in Reading, Pennsylvania. Before the trip, she appeared on Fox News to defend the administration’s $14 million renovation of the Lincoln Memorial Reflecting Pool, according to a report the U.S. Sun published Wednesday, July 1.

Away from the podium, Leavitt has been generous with glimpses into her home life for her 3 million Instagram followers. She and husband Nicholas Riccio, 60, are raising Viviana alongside Niko, their 2-year-old son.
