More details have been revealed regarding the death of Hassan Jihad Ibn Kariem after the father of two fell to his death from the Goliath roller coaster at Six Flags Over Georgia on Monday, October 12.
Citing a new police report, TMZ reported Tuesday that officers with the Cobb County Police Department responded to the park around 3:58 p.m. on Monday and found the 42-year-old victim beneath the ride, unresponsive and not breathing.
According to the report, witnesses told police Kariem was ejected from a cart and struck other riders before falling to the ground, per the outlet. Officers quickly secured the scene and called in the department’s Major Crimes Unit.
Georgia’s Office of the Commissioner of Insurance and Safety Fire told TMZ they are conducting an “in-depth and comprehensive review” to see what happened and whether all safety procedures were properly followed.

As Globe previously reported, witnesses told NBC affiliate WXIA-TV Kariem was on the ride with family. “His son was sitting right beside him. His wife and daughter were not on the ride, they were at the bottom and had no idea. His son watched it all,” a witness told the station.
Another witness said the victim fell just after the part of the ride that snaps a souvenir photo. “He was in our pictures,” the witness told WXIA-TV. “He fell and hit the car three different times.”
Six Flags has since closed the ride and temporarily closed nine additional roller coasters across its parks, per CNN, “out of an abundance of caution,” according to a spokesperson Monday evening.
The move comes after a handful of parkgoers suffered severe injuries and even brain trauma at the park’s Valencia, California, location in August 2026, leading to the permanent closure of its X2 coaster.

In a statement shared across media outlets, including WXIA-TV, following the incident, Six Flags said it was “deeply saddened” by the tragedy.
“Our thoughts and heartfelt condolences are with the guest’s family, friends, and loved ones. We are also providing support to the guests and team members affected,” the statement read.
“The park team and local authorities responded immediately, and we are cooperating fully with local authorities as they complete their investigation,” the statement continued. “Out of respect for the family’s privacy, we will not be sharing additional details at this time.”
Police told TMZ they could share no further details amid an ongoing investigation, but promised to release verified information once it’s complete.
