One person who’s allegedly not excited about the prospect of Kamala Harris running for president in 2028? Her husband, Doug Emhoff, according to the Wall Street Journal.
The paper reported that Emhoff, 61, “has privately told some people he would prefer she didn’t run,” although those close to the former second gentleman said he will be supportive if she does. The report also noted that some Harris donors would rather see her sit out the race, and have told the former Vice President, also 61, that her chances of running in 2028 are “a long shot.”

Harris has not said she will in fact run for president in 2028. “I have not decided if I’m going to run again,” said the former senator at an event last month. “I do sincerely believe ’28 won’t matter if we don’t get through ’26.”
In an interview last year, Emhoff spoke directly about his feelings about his wife running again after her loss to President Donald Trump in 2024. “I’ll leave that for her. She’s entitled to do what she wants at this point, and I’m going to support her whatever she decides to do in the future,” he said.

Though verbally noncommittal, Harris has been laying the groundwork for a potential run in other ways, attending numerous Democratic fundraisers. And Newsweek reported that Harris has significantly more support than other prospective Democratic candidates, including Gavin Newsom and Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez, according to a poll conducted by Harvard University’s Center for American Political Studies.
