Michelle Obama ‘Fed Up’ With Husband Barack ‘Putting His Career First’ as Marriage Rumors Swirl

Former President Barack Obama may be barreling toward a $70 million divorce of the century from wife Michelle, sources say — and incredibly, he appears to be blaming current President Donald Trump for fueling their marital strife.

In a shockingly candid interview with The New Yorker, America’s 44th commander in chief confessed to “genuine tension” on the home front because of the considerable time suck of playing de facto leader to the broken Democratic Party.

Barack conceded that former first lady Michelle had wanted him to be totally free of the demands of politics at this point in their lives and is miffed that things have not worked out that way.

“It frustrates her,” confided Barack, who spent months campaigning for flailing Democratic candidates in the 2024 presidential elections, including hapless former VP Kamala Harris, who filled in after doddering Joe Biden dropped out of the race — only to be trounced at the polls by victorious Republican rival Trump.

“She wants to see her husband easing up and spending more time with her, enjoying what remains of our lives,” he shared.

Yet, Barack says he will continue to get involved in subsequent election cycles, and cut ads for and appear with Democratic candidates.

Barack, 64, went on to apparently blame Trump and his policies for his own need to continue serving his party — and hinted at the impact it has had on his 33-year marriage.

The ex-POTUS seemed to suggest that due to Trump’s ongoing actions, he must continue to serve as the GOP leader’s foil.

“Michelle’s so fed up with Barack putting his career first that she would rather see the country — and her marriage — burn than give her blessing to Barack’s endless excuses for why he’s not there,” dishes a Washington, D.C., insider.

As Globe previously reported, sources say the Obamas’ marriage has long been hanging by a thread.

Harvard-trained lawyer Michelle, 62, confessed in 2022 to Revolt TV that she “couldn’t stand” Barack for a full decade as he pursued his political ambitions, while she sacrificed her career to play homemaker and mother to their two daughters, Malia, now 27, and Sasha, 24, as reported by The Guardian.

Sources have long reported that America’s glamorous former first couple has been leading separate lives — and that Barack has been sleeping alone for months.

Beltway insiders say Barack spends most of his time playing political puppet master from the couple’s D.C.-area mansion, while Michelle is rooted in Hollywood focusing on their multimedia company, Higher Ground Productions.

Last year, tipsters told Globe that tensions between the twosome had reached a boiling point as Barack allegedly blamed Michelle for Trump’s 2024 victory because of her supposed refusal to run — which set the stage for Harris’ defeat.

Soon afterward, sources say wedding ring–less Barack was spotted dining alone in D.C. He also attended both Jimmy Carter‘s funeral and Trump’s inauguration in January 2025 without his wife.

Meanwhile, Michelle was said to be overly flirty during a podcast interview with handsome Airbnb CEO Brian Chesky, 43. She even joked that if she were single, she might just book a stay at his place!

Still, with rumors of secret divorce negotiations swirling last May, Michelle publicly insisted all was well between her and her hubby.

But one insider tells Globe that humiliated Michelle is plotting a public divorce announcement to follow the pivotal 2026 midterm elections — which would make the pair the first living former first couple to legally end their marriage.

Pals say they fear an ugly public meltdown may be imminent — with one source sharing, “I wouldn’t be surprised to hear Barack say, ‘Trump destroyed my marriage!'”

A Globe insider candidly confides, “She has conceded the timing of the announcement to her husband — even though she’d love nothing more than to tell the world tomorrow.

“Trump is just an excuse. Barack will never walk away from politics, and Michelle knows it. This has been coming for a long time.”
