Man Who Owned ‘Home Alone’ House Dead Days After Reported Arrest on Felony Charges
The man who once owned the home seen in the iconic 1990 film Home Alone, starring Macaulay Culkin, has died, according to multiple reports.
TMZ reported on Friday, April 24, that John Abendshien was found dead at a nature preserve on Wednesday, April 22.
According to Fox32 Chicago, the Lake County Coroner’s Office conducted an autopsy and said the 79-year-old died from asphyxia “in a manner consistent with being self-inflicted.”
“This is believed to be an isolated incident with no threat to the community at this time,” the coroner’s office stated, per ABC7 Chicago.
Abendshien, who reportedly owned the Home Alone house when the Christmas classic was filmed, was arrested days before on child pornography charges. He sold the property (located at 671 Lincoln Avenue in Winnetka, Illinois) in 2012, TMZ said.
Fox32 Chicago reported that he was charged with seven felony counts for allegedly having child sexual abuse material.
Abendshien was reportedly released from custody with conditions.
Before his death, the former Home Alone homeowner wrote a memoir called Home but Alone No More.
