Officers from the Colorado Springs Police Department arrived at the motel in the 1700 block of South Nevada Avenue on the morning of May 20 and discovered bloodstains on the bedding, floor and walls. Jensen-Green’s body was found wedged between a bed and a nightstand, per the report.
According to the outlet, O’Brien and Jensen-Green had checked in together two days before the discovery. Investigators said the two met on a bus, and O’Brien helped her get to the motel, where the pair used methamphetamine during their stay. O’Brien told a homicide detective that Jensen-Green then began “ranting and raving,” which annoyed him.
“I was actually just trying to lay there and enjoy my high,” O’Brien told the detective, per his arrest papers, cited in the report.

O’Brien also told investigators he eventually “snapped,” retrieved a hammer from his backpack, walked over to Jensen-Green while she was lying down and struck her in the head multiple times before smothering her with a pillow to “finish it,” according to the outlet.
The following morning, per the report, O’Brien instructed housekeeping not to disturb Jensen-Green, claiming she was sleeping. “I didn’t want her discovered until it was time for checkout on the second day. I figured it gave me time to get away,” O’Brien said, according to the arrest papers.
Police were first tipped off by a roommate who contacted authorities after O’Brien allegedly confessed the killing to them directly, according to the Denver Gazette. Officers later spotted O’Brien at a Maverick gas station on May 25, where he initially identified himself as “Mark” before being confirmed through a law enforcement database search and taken into custody.
Per the report, wet rags with apparent bloodstains were found in the bathroom, suggesting a possible attempt to clean the room. And while at a local hospital for DNA collection, O’Brien brought up the homicide unprompted, telling police, “I don’t get why you want stuff that’s like sexual assault stuff because there was no sex.” He added, “being accused of something I did is one thing, being accused of something that didn’t happen is something else.”
According to the article, O’Brien is currently being held at the El Paso County jail on a $50,000 bond. Colorado court records, cited by the outlet, show he also faces kidnapping and aggravated robbery charges in a separate criminal case. He made his first court appearance Monday and is scheduled for a preliminary hearing on July 13, when a judge will determine whether sufficient evidence exists to proceed with the case.
