A birthday request for a discounted sub turned into a viral shouting match at a Jersey Mike’s, and the internet can’t stop talking about it.
The video, posted to X on Monday, July 13, by the account @Chicago_Goofies, shows a woman recording a heated exchange with an employee who identified himself as David, according to Daily Dot.
“Say what you said. Who are you talking to?” she says, pressing him to repeat comments he’d made moments earlier.
David confirms he told her to leave, initially softening it with “Please and thank you.” When she pushes him to say it directly on camera, he responds, “Get the [Expletive] out.” As the exchange escalates, he brings up her discount request. “Broke a[Expletive] is turning to $4, $10. [Expletive] off,” he says.
The woman ties the moment back to her birthday. “Uh-huh, because it’s my birthday and I asked for a birthday discount,” she says. David replies, “I don’t give a [Expletive] if it’s your birthday. [Expletive] off.”

She warns him the exchange could cost him his job. “Watch you lose your job, David. This is how I get treated on my birthday at Jersey Mike’s,” she says. He responds, “[Expletive] your birthday. Yes, ma’am.”
She threatens legal action, saying, “You’re going to have a whole lawsuit. You got the right one to play with,” before asking for a manager. David tells her he is the manager on duty and that corporate has already been contacted.
Reactions online have been sharply divided, with many siding with the employee. One user wrote, “He said what he said, she deserved it,” and urged Jersey Mike’s not to punish him for the outburst.
Another commenter said they hoped “corporate sides with the employee,” adding that customers like this “can really try one’s patience.”
One user pointed to the Jersey Mike’s app, writing that the woman was “just annoying” and should have used it “instead of acting entitled.”
Another reply defended David directly, asking the company to “take into account how this guy was being treated and don’t discipline for his language.”
Another pointed out that the customer shouldn’t have expected the discount “unless you received a coupon stating a free sub for your birthday.”
