Jennifer Lopez Admits Filming Musical That Ben Affleck Produced Helped Her ‘Survive’ Their Divorce

Jennifer Lopez recently opened up about a challenging time in her life.

On Monday, October 6, Lopez, 56, appeared on Today to promote her new musical movie, Kiss of the Spider Woman, when host Craig Melvin pointed out that she and her ex-husband, Ben Affleck, were both working on the film — in different capacities — during their split.

“In the middle of filming this elaborate, beautiful musical, your divorce was also finalized with Ben,” Melvin began.

“There you go,” Lopez laughed in response. “Look at this guy.”

“But then I read that your ex is an executive producer on the film,” he continued.

The “On the Floor” singer — who finalized her divorce from the Good Will Hunting actor, 53, in January 2025 — admitted, “If it wasn’t for Ben, the movie wouldn’t have gotten made, and I will always give him that credit.”

“Things happen, you have to keep going,” Lopez explained. “But it’s funny, the movie is about escapism. It’s about how movies and art save us in the hardest times of our lives.”

“Doing this project was such a dream come true for me that it really got me through to kind of survive a moment that was difficult in my personal life as well,” she added.

The Monster in Law actress and two-time Oscar winner first linked up in the early 2000s and then rekindled their romance in 2021. The couple officially tied the knot in 2022 and filed for divorce in 2024.

Kiss of the Spider Woman hits theaters Friday, October 10.
