Newly reported details about Brandon Clarke‘s death are emerging.

Shortly after news broke on Tuesday, May 12, that the Memphis Grizzlies forward had died at age 29, NBC Los Angeles reported that drug paraphernalia was found in the home where the NBA player‘s body was discovered and his death was being investigated as a possible overdose.

The outlet stated that the Los Angeles fire department responded to a 911 call regarding a medical emergency on Monday, May 11. Clarke was pronounced dead at the scene by paramedics at around 5 p.m. local time.

Clarke’s agency, Priority Sports, and the Grizzlies both confirmed the news of his death on social media.

“We are all beyond devastated by the passing of Brandon Clarke. He was so loved by all of us here, and everyone whose life he touched. He was the gentlest soul who was the first to be there for all of his friends and family,” the statement shared by Priority Sports via X on Tuesday read.

“Our hearts are so broken as we think about his mom, Whitney, his entire family, and all of his friends and teammates. From high school to San Jose State to Gonzaga to the Grizzlies, Brandon impacted everyone who was part of his life,” the message continued.

The official account of the Grizzlies posted a similar statement and added that they expressed their “deepest condolences to his family and loved ones during this difficult time.”

Last month, Clarke made headlines when he was arrested after he led Arkansas police on a high-speed chase.

He was later hit with charges tied to possession and trafficking of kratom, a supplement often marketed as an energy booster, along with fleeing.

The case was still pending at the time of his death.
