When Mariska Hargitay isn’t fighting crime as Olivia Benson on Law & Order: Special Victims Unit, she’s cheering at the top of her lungs for the New York Knicks. Now, the team’s star says he wants to step into her world.
Jalen Brunson — the point guard who captained the Knicks to their first NBA championship in 53 years on Saturday, June 13 — dropped a surprising answer when reporters caught up with him after the team’s historic win. Rather than talking about parades or visiting Disneyland, Brunson smiled when asked what he planned to do next and answered, “Try to get on, try to go to SVU,” per an Instagram post shared by the NBA on Sunday, June 14.
It’s a wish rooted in something real: Throughout the championship run against the San Antonio Spurs, the longtime Knicks supporter, 62, turned up at Madison Square Garden as the team advanced.

On June 10, Hargitay was spotted courtside alongside Taylor Swift and the Haim sisters, the group decked out in customized Knicks-colored shirts. After the team erased a 29-point deficit to take Game 4, Hargitay — who is married to Peter Hermann, 58, with whom she shares three kids, August, Amaya and Andrew — gushed, “I love my husband, and our wedding night was great and all, but I think it might have been the greatest night of my life,” per The Hollywood Reporter.
The actress and Brunson shared a hug after that game, with Hargitay telling him, “I love you so much, I’m so happy,” in a clip that went viral on X.

Brunson, 28, has made his admiration for the SVU star equally clear. With celebrity fans surrounding the court throughout the championship — among them Spike Lee, Sydney Sweeney, Ben Stiller and Martha Stewart — Brunson was asked to name his favorite. “My number one, love her to death, she knows it… Mariska Hargitay,” he said during an appearance on the Richard Jefferson Show.
Brunson has not been confirmed for the show’s upcoming 28th season.
