A Georgia man suffered serious injuries after being bitten by a shark while attempting to protect his pregnant fiancée.
Jacorey High, 22, was vacationing with family in Daytona Beach, Florida, before being rushed to the hospital on Saturday, July 25, after suffering a bite to his left foot. The attack took place just before 5:30 p.m. at a Volusia County beach, according to local news outlet WESH.
“I realized right away it was a shark because of the way it bit down on my foot, but I was more worried about getting my fiancée out of the water,” High said, per Fox 5 Atlanta.
“It came up to try to get my arm, so I had to push it away from me. I ran, and it tried to get my other leg,” High added.

Jacorey, who was able to push his fiancée safely to shore, underwent surgery on his foot and has a “long and challenging” recovery ahead, according to a GoFundMe set up in his honor.
“I didn’t really feel it until I got to the hospital when they started giving me medicine for it,” he continued. “Hoping that it didn’t really mess up anything important in my foot so that I can go back to work.”
The latest attack comes as Discovery kicks off its 2026 Shark Week programming.
