Dakota Fanning Confirms She Still Gets the Same Bizarre Birthday Gift From Tom Cruise Every Year

Dakota Fanning doesn’t just get one of Tom Cruise’s infamous cakes for Christmas — the actress confirmed that each year, the Mission: Impossible star still gives her a new pair of shoes for her birthday.

Fanning, 31, first revealed that Cruise, 63, sent her shoes during a 2024 appearance on The Kelly Clarkson Show. However, the topic came back up when she and Brittany Snow stopped by Watch What Happens Live With Andy Cohen on November 6.

“Does Tom Cruise still send you shoes on your birthday?” host Andy Cohen asked the All Her Fault star.

“Yes, he does,” she replied, much to Cohen’s amazement.

When asked exactly “what kind of shoes” the Top Gun: Maverick star sent her every year, Fanning only said, “really nice shoes.”

Snow, 39, who was also shocked to hear about Cruise’s excellent gift choices, exclaimed, “I have so many questions!”

“It’s really as simple as that,” Fanning explained. “He’s just always given me shoes.”

However, Snow needed more details and wondered if Cruise kept up with her changing shoe sizes over the years since he first started the tradition when Fanning was just a child.

Fanning was only 11 years old when she starred in War of the Worlds alongside Cruise.

“It has changed, and he’s adapted,” Fanning said.

She previously spoke about Cruise’s birthday gifts during an interview with Harper’s Bazaar in 2024.

“I was so excited. I didn’t have anybody to call or text at that time, you know I was 11,” Fanning said at the time. “I loved having it. I loved it. I felt so cool.”

Cruise is also known for sending a decadent white-chocolate coconut Bundt from Doan’s Bakery — dubbed the “Cruise cake” — to some of his closest friends every Christmas.
