Colorado Mom Goes Viral for Having Son ‘Arrested’ for Refusing First-Day-of-School Photo

Never underestimate a mom on a mission. Some kids skip the photo, but Colton Stolz — who was throwing a tantrum on his first day back to school — got handcuffed instead.

Amanda Stolz was driving her son to his first day of fifth grade in Keenesburg, Colorado, on Monday, August 10, when Colton flatly refused to pose for a back-to-school picture. Rather than let it go, Stolz spotted Keenesburg Police Officer Jack Ross nearby and pulled over to explain her predicament.

Ross didn’t hesitate. He flipped on his emergency lights, cuffed a laughing Colton and delivered the verdict himself.

“Officer Jack had to step in and inform him that refusing your mom a first-day-of-school picture is, in fact, against the law,” Stolz recounted on Facebook.

Photos from the “arrest” show Ross walking Colton to the patrol car and later posing with him in the back seat, grinning the whole time.

Stolz spoke to CBS Colorado and said she couldn’t have asked for a better outcome. “It was awesome that Officer Jack took it serious,” she said. “We were like, ‘Well, I guess we have your back-to-school pictures now, don’t we?'”

In her post, Stolz thanked the Keenesburg Police Department for playing along. “Moments like this are something these kids will remember, and I love seeing our officers taking the time to joke around, connect with them, and make their morning a little more fun,” she wrote.

The comments section quickly filled up with people charmed by the moment. “Omg. How cute. Don’t ever wear those cuffs again. Your momma will whoop you,” one person wrote.

Another suggested it should become standard practice: “This should be the law. Moms should be allowed to take pics of their kids whenever they want, should be in some contract.”

Others focused on what this means for Colton’s future photo ops. “He will never be able to beat these 1st Day pictures,” one user wrote, while another added, “I hope an officer allows him to recreate this picture in a fun way for his senior year.”

Plenty of people found the whole thing simply funny. “Hilarious! Poor Colton, it’s gonna be a long year [if] this is how it starts out! I hope Jack got a free coffee for doing that haha,” one wrote.

Another joked, “Should have had the police drive him to school! Big street cred!!”
