A former classmate of Christa Pike claimed the death row inmate made a horrifying boast about what she planned to do with part of her victim’s remains after the 1995 murder of Colleen Slemmer.

Rita Morris disclosed that Pike, now 50, bragged about keeping pieces of Slemmer’s remains after the killing, according to a report published by The Sun. on Saturday, October 10.

“She bragged she was going to eat a piece of her victim’s brain with her eggs for breakfast,” Morris said.

Per the report, the two attended the Knoxville Job Corps training program, where Pike became convinced Slemmer was interested in her boyfriend, Tadaryl Shipp.

Morris, who knew both women, insisted Slemmer had no romantic interest in Shipp and said Pike’s jealousy was based on a false belief.

“The love triangle narrative is just not true,” Morris told the outlet.

Morris recalled that Pike later spoke openly about the murder and showed little concern for what she had done.

“She was bragging about it and stuff,” Morris continued. “It was like a trophy for her. And as well as a piece of skull, she had a piece of her brain.”

“She said she was going to eat it with her eggs in the morning,” Morris added.

Court documents cited by The Sun U.K. stated that Pike admitted to the killing while speaking to another student and displayed a piece of Slemmer’s skull. Pike was sentenced to death in 1996. Shipp, who participated in the murder, received a lesser sentence because he was younger than 18 at the time.

Pike’s case has drawn renewed attention following a failed lethal injection attempt on September 30. As Globe previously reported, she survived two doses of pentobarbital and was later hospitalized before returning to prison.

Morris, however, believes Pike has never demonstrated genuine remorse.

“She was proud of what she did and wanted to tell everyone. She thought she was untouchable,” Morris claimed.

The former classmate said she hopes the renewed attention will focus on Slemmer rather than the woman convicted of killing her.

“I want Colleen’s voice to be heard and not forgotten,” Morris said. “She was a good person with a good heart and she didn’t deserve that.”
