Carnival Cruise Line Addresses Viral Video of Passenger Using Fork to Scratch Her Foot
Not all vacation moments are meant for the camera, and one cruise passenger learned that the hard way after a fellow passenger caught her mid-scratch.
The saga began when an Instagram user going by @lucky_charmedcourt posted a series of videos documenting a woman using a dining fork to scratch an itch on her foot inside a public dining area aboard the Carnival Sunrise.
The video, which shows the woman scratching aggressively with her hand at first, then switching to the fork before eventually resuming her meal, all while other passengers ate nearby. The filming passenger later visited guest services to flag her concerns, which she documented in subsequent videos.
Seeing the internet erupt with reactions, Carnival addressed the viral videos directly on its official Instagram account Wednesday, July 22. They captioned their official statement as “a message from us.”
The cruise line struck a playful but firm tone. “Hi Carnival cruisers,” the statement began. “We can confirm that forks are intended for food, not foot care. Once we became aware of the situation, our team quickly addressed it with the guest and removed the utensil from service.”
The company went on to acknowledge the internet’s reaction while standing by its cleanliness standards.
“While the video may be generating laughs and gasps online, cleanliness and hygiene are no joke to us. Our crew works hard every day to maintain high standards across our feet fleet and to ensure all guests enjoy a safe, clean, and comfortable vacation. See you onboard,” the statement concluded.
Despite the statement’s playful tone, Carnival appears to have disabled comments on the post, closing off public reaction to its response.
