A low-altitude pass by a Blue Angels jet sent chairs, tents and umbrellas flying across Pensacola Beach, Florida this week, and now the Navy says no one involved will face punishment.

According to a report from North Florida ABC affiliate WEAR published on Wednesday, July 15, 2026, the incident happened during a “Breakfast with the Blues” event that day.

“It was huge because it was so close. All of our tents got knocked down … It was worth it. It was awesome,” witness Samantha Mayne said, per the report. “I’ve been coming for 10 years and I’ve never seen a pass like that in my life,” Ashley Korn said. “I literally thought we were going to be taken out by Blue Angels, but it was amazing.”

“I’m gonna remember that probably for the rest of my life,” Lane Wilkerson said, while Lillie Korn added, “It was thrilling. I thought it was gonna be you just watch a plane fly. But it was cool.”

Per WEAR, the Blue Angels released a statement that noted “an aircraft flew lower than standard profiles, resulting in a disturbance on the beach that affected civilian chairs and umbrellas.” The statement said team leadership was “reviewing the circumstances surrounding the maneuver and conducting a thorough safety review to ensure all operations adhere to strict Navy and FAA safety standards.”

Acting Secretary of the Navy Hung Cao addressed the incident in a post to TikTok on Thursday, July 16, 2026, that included a brief video clip of the jet passing over the beach. “Flight debrief complete. No reprimands. No firings. No problem. That’s the sound of Freedom! Semper fi and Hooyah,” Cao wrote in the caption.

Reaction to Cao’s post was mixed. While many commenters praised the maneuver, others pushed back on the “no problem” characterization. “The sound of freedom is professionalism and discipline. Putting civilian lives in danger for zero reason ain’t it,” one commenter wrote. Another user wrote, “People are going to die from these stunts some day.”

A third commenter questioned the lack of consequences, asking, “No reprimand? Not even some mentoring?” One user noted the video didn’t show beachgoers holding down their belongings and covering their ears during the pass.
