Billy Ray Cyrus says he respects the presidency — regardless of what party is in power.

On Tuesday, April 14, the singer, 64, sat down for an interview with Sky News, where he reflected on performing for presidents over the years, including President Donald Trump at the Inaugural Ball in 2025.

“My dad was a Democrat and served in the Kentucky legislature for over 20 years. But my dad always said, ‘When the president asks you to do something, you do it, son,’” Cyrus remarked. “So I’ve had both Democratic and Republican presidents. Served with Bill Clinton, with President [Barack] Obama, Mr. [George W.] Bush, Mr. Bush’s dad [George H.W. Bush] and Mr. Trump.”

“Being president is a tough job,” he added. “I pray for our country, I pray for our president, and I pray for our world.”

The “Achy Breaky Heart” hitmaker also noted that he came from a “diverse background in spirituality and politics.”

“The one thing I’ve always found in common is the human heart and the soul, and the spirit of a human being, and finding things that bring people together again is my purpose,” he shared.

Back in January 2025, the Hannah Montana alum shared a statement with People about his performance, which was plagued by technical difficulties.

“I wouldn’t have missed the honor of playing this event whether my microphone, guitar and monitors worked or not. I was there because President Donald J. Trump invited me,” Cyrus told the outlet. “I had a ball at the Liberty Ball last night and I’ve learned through all these years when the producer says, ‘You’re on,’ you go entertain the folks even if the equipment goes to hell. I was there for the people and we had a blast. That’s called rock n roll!!!”
